East Tennessee Disaster Cleanup: Gathering Volunteers

Please read all details below. If you are available to assist, please reach out to your elders quorum president. As noted below, a final decision on whether our stake’s assistance will be needed will be made in the coming days.

Gauging Volunteer Availability

Our stake may be called upon during the weekend of October 12th and 13th to assist in relief efforts in east Tennessee. Other stakes to our east and south will be responding this weekend. Depending on their report at the end of the weekend, the determination will be made to expand the circle to ask for more help.

We have been asked as a stake to begin getting the word out in our units and to make a soft commitment on who could help next weekend if we are called upon. Our goal is to have 100 volunteers.

Work Conditions

The work situation will include:

  • Volunteers will provide their own food, water, fuel, and lodging for a full day work on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Work will include flood recovery, including clearing debris and living areas.

  • Volunteers will need to be mature enough to work in situations without immediate creature comforts. Those under 18 will need to have a parent with them at all times.

As a stake we have recent experience in dealing with these types of situations with the flooding disaster in Waverly. Conditions will be much the same.

How to Volunteer

If you are available to help, please reach out to your elders quorum president at your first opportunity.

It is expected that formal plans will be announced Sunday evening. We thank you for your willingness to serve!
