Temple Recommend Desk Volunteers Needed

Volunteers Needed

The Nashville Temple will be closing soon for a remodel that will take up most of the remainder of the year. Though we will miss the opportunity to take part in ordinances while it is closed, there is still a need and opportunity to serve in the temple. Because there will not be a rededication at the completion of the construction work, the temple will remain "active" and require that those entering have a current recommend.

There is a need for volunteers to work at the recommend desk during the temple's closure. A few key points:

  • You must have a current Temple recommend to serve at the recommend desk.

  • You do not have to be set apart as an ordinance worker.

  • Workers will need to wear white clothing, but it does not have to be a dress.

  • Shifts have been organized into 4-hour service blocks.

How to Volunteer

An electronic schedule has been set up to manage volunteers. To access the link to sign up, please search your email application for “Temple Recommend Desk Volunteers Needed.”

Thank you, everyone, for your willingness to serve in the Lord's house!

Q&A

Many have asked about ways they can help or serve during the remodeling of our temple. Below is a series of frequently asked questions and related answers. These questions and answers are based on information as we know it presently and subject to change or be amended to meet the needs of the remodeling effort. Should you have any questions about this FAQ or serving as a recommend desk worker (RDW), please reach out to allenpatin@outlook.com or call or text 615-779-4919. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE TEMPLE.

Does the recommend desk worker (RDW) need to be a set apart temple ordinance worker?

No, however the RDW needs to be an endowed brother or sister with a current valid paper temple recommend activated by their stake presidency.

Should the RDW wear temple white suit/dress?

No, because this is a working construction zone. There will no changing area.

How should the RDW arrive already dressed for their shifts?

The RDAs should arrive ready to work in their own white work clothes and white work shoes (white painter pants, white t-shirt, white medical scrubs, white pull-over shirt, white sneakers or comfortable white shoes, etc.). The all-white clothing and shoes should not have any logos, designs, colored markings, etc.

Will the RDWs have access to water, rest rooms, air conditioning, etc?

Yes.

What if I don’t have white shoes?

Protective “booties” or shoe coverings will be provided. These should be reused unless they become dirty and unusable.

What kind of environment or work conditions will the RDW be working in?

Reasonable and customary construction environment (dust, noise, etc). Masks and ear plugs will be provided by the general contractor.

Describe what the RDW will be doing on a given shift.

Monitoring entrance to the temple, scanning temple recommends, and providing wrist/arm bands to the construction work crews.

Who do I contact if I need to swap shifts?

You will need to secure a replacement RDW from the list of persons willing already to substitute. If you need a list of substitutes, please contact us by using one of the methods listed above.
